Burman military government changed the country name, "Union of Burma" to "Union of Myanmar" in 1989. However, Burma's democratic movement organizations and participants are still using the past country name, "Union of Burma" or "Burma". Burman military government claimed that "Burma" is merely understood to represent the Burman tribe while "Myanmar" represents all ethnic minorities as well as the Burman tribe. When the military government changed the country name, they also changed names of tribes, cities, and even rivers.
