The National League for Democracy (NLD) is not a genuine human right organization. It is a political party which was formed in 1988 in preparation for the multi-party general election with Aung San Suu Kyi as its general secretary. It won the election by landslide of more than 80% of the seats of the parliament. It has suffered a continuous oppression by the military government. Its members were arrested, imprisoned, and harassed since then. In a move toward convening the full Parliament, the NLD and several smaller parties have formed an executive committee called The Committee Representing the People's Parliament.
