Name of Country: After the end of World War ¥±, the country name of Cambodia has changed several times in the course of successive political turmoils. During the Sihanouk Era(1953¡1970) when Pro-chinese neutral diplomacy was adopted, the country was called the "Kingdom of Cambodia", and after Lon Non took over the country by coup detat, he named the country "the Republic of Khmer" proclaiming pro-American and pro-Western policy (1970¡75). The following successive regimes of Pol Pot, Khieu Siphan, and Ieng Sary (1975¡79) changed the name to "democratic Kampuchea" adopting again Pro-Chinese diplomacy and proclaiming building of a national Communistic country. Under the regimes of Heng Samrin and Hun Sen(1979¡89), who adhered to pro-Russia and pro-Vietnam policy, the country became "the People's Republic of Kampuchea". In June 1982, and anti-Phnom Penh Coalition Government called "Coalition Government of Democratic Kampuchea" (CGDK) was established as a form of government-in-exile. Meanwhile, Heng Samrin and Hun Sen changed the country name once again to "the State of Cambodia", but in September 1993 when Sahanouk was reinstated as the chief of state as a result of UN supervised general election in May of the same year, the country became "the Kingdom of Cambodia."
