International Asia Cambodia Overview of Human Rights Condition

According to the constitution, Cambodian women have a better condition about their rights than that of any other country. But, no one can be interested in women's rights for a long time because of the civil war, massacre, political discord, and insufficient cleanup of the past. Puy Kea, the correspondent of "Kyoto news" in Phnom Penh said, "Continuous wars strengthened men's power and influence." This was shown in male chauvinism and increase of violence. Many Cambodian think that women are not fit to do creative or organized works, for example judicial affairs and administrations. Few women are engaged in the field. In the period of election, men even ordered women to "vote for someone". Male chauvinism has grown its influence gradually. It is nearly impossible for women to enter the political world. In the end, the articles in the constitution about women's right are perfunctory.
