Two faces of Janus |

From time to time, Brazil is called "two faces of Janus". In the 1970s and 1980s, Brazil was called "Belindia", which was a compound word of Belgium, where the social security system was the best in the world, and India, where people were suffered from hunger. When the economic situation grew worse in the early of the 1990s, Brazil was called "Africanization".
Brazil grew gradually through the 1950s and the 1970s, and developed drastically from 1968 to 1973, showing 11% annual economic growth. However, alternation of inflation and vicious depression in the 1980s and the 1990s brought about social unrest. Income gap in Brazil became bigger and bigger while economy showed a significant growth. This shows the cruelty of capitalism to the lower class population.
