State Violence

Nobody knows how many Indioes were lived in Brazil when it was discovered by Portugal. It is supposed that there were 2,400,000 at the minimum 6,000,000 at the maximum. The number of Indioes decreased continuously due to the whites, but started to increase by 10% from 1991 because in 1988, Indioes were placed under the protection of the law. According to statistics, the population of Indioes was less than 100,000 in 1957, which means violence was used to a minority group in Brazil, which was known as a democratic and generous country.
In the 20th century, the Brazilian government was in a hurry of developing the north and the midwest. Transfer of the capital to Brazilia and development of Amazon were done as well at this period of time. All of these influenced a lot not only the environment of Brazil but the life styles of Indioes as well.
